Whose Lips Should We Adopt – Aphrodite Or Eros?
4 September 2017
Yet again, Turkish plastic surgeons have broken a new ground globally and discarded the boring ambience of the outdated western medical literature. They have been able to classify the lip anatomy using a terminology that our people can understand at first sight. Here comes the applause. For now, we have Aphrodite, Venus, Eros, Porthos and Aramis models as well as French and Spanish models. Soon we will have the entire solar system in the bag, not to mention continental Europe and the three musketeers. Gentlemen, don’t worry! The Mars lip for men will soon be available in our practice.
Lip fillers have gained immense popularity in recent years. Lip fullness is an element that emphasizes the femininity and youthfulness of the female face. It is possible to positively affect the visual appearance of both the lip and the chin, nose and eyes relatively by increasing lip fullness in individuals whose lip volume is less than normal compared to the facial volume.
So what should our patients expect from this procedure?
In plastic surgery, it is very possible to write a book dedicated to “expectations”. Unless expectations are met, patients cannot be happy. The essence of our work is to improve people’s physical appearance and render them happier, more social and more productive individuals.
For expectations to be realistic, the patient must be informed. Otherwise, expectations will be based on dreams rather than statistics, scientific data, a consensus that emerges from a refining of experience, that is, facts. And it is inevitable that any procedure that starts with a dream will result in disappointment.
Dreams include the likes of “Now we will go to the doctor’s office, choose the lip model we want from the catalog, tell the doc ‘Hey doc, gimme an Aphrodite lip’, and then we will go and have lunch with friends. That’s all.”
And the facts: Lip filling is a medical application guided by the aesthetic integrity of the face and the anatomy of the jaw and teeth, all within the absolute limits of medical safety, taking into account the wishes of the patient. It is not a hairdressing job but rather has serious complications.
You cannot choose a model from the catalog, and in some cases, your doctor may politely tell you that you are not a suitable candidate for this procedure, then offer you a cup of tea and send you back home.
Lip augmentation is an application that aims to plump the lip by preserving its original shape rather than changing it. In other words, we want, say, Rose’s lips not to be like Artemis’ but to look like Rose’s genuine lips with a natural fullness. Every person is born with a unique lip structure and there is no unpreferred / ugly type of lips in aesthetic surgery. As in all aesthetic surgery practices, the ultimate aim is beautification without compromising originality.
And I am telling you: Do not make yourself “the gal with blobber lips at the next table” just for the sake of having erotic-sounding lips. Before diving into lip augmentation, discover the beauty of your own lips, take a good look at them and make a list of the things you love about them and want unchanged. If you think “I can’t find anything to love about my lips”, type “body image perception disorder” on Google instead of “lip filling doctor” and open-mindedly read the texts that pop up.
Take good care…
… of yourself and your beauty.
Now, let’s suppose that, as a patient, I decide to have lip augmentation under the influence of such visual materials that assign erotic names to different lip types and are commonly available on social media. I enter any surgeon’s office I please and say, “Hey doc, gimme a pair of Aramis lips!”
So can we achieve any lip shape we want with just fillers? Of course no.
Is it possible to say “I want my lips like this. I want this model?”
