Should Facelift and Neck Lift Procedures Be Performed Together?
25 March 2020
Neck lift is often done together with face lift. Too many patients wonder whether it is better to combine interventions this way or to choose a single procedure at a given time. There are opinions that support and reject both options, but I prefer them to be done together.
First of all, facelift surgery is not a painful procedure. There are different types of facelifts that vary depending on the extent of correction. When facelift surgery is performed alone, it only affects the cheek area and the areas adjacent to the cheek. If you want the effect to extend, for example, around the eyes, you need to integrate eyelid, temple and forehead surgeries to your surgical plan. Similarly, if you want the effect to extend to the neck, you will need to include neck lift surgery in the plan.
Although we would like to think otherwise, the signs of aging are not limited to just one area of the body. The face and neck age together as a whole. If only one area is treated, this will make the untreated area look even older compared to the other area. The results of a single treatment will then appear more pronounced or even look incomplete.
Another point is that neck lift surgery is often performed through the same incision as a facelift. In other words, if the neck is not done during the facelift surgery and you want to have your neck done, say 5 years after the surgery, it is likely that some of the incisions made in the previous surgery will need to be made again.
Combining a neck lift with a facelift may prolong the recovery process for a few days. However, doing them in two separate sessions will mean repeating the same process and prolonging the overall recovery and absence from work. To that end, it may be a reasonable option to shorten the total recovery time by doing the face and neck in one single session. Performing the procedures in two different sessions is often more expensive than combined surgeries in terms of total cost.
After all, why go into trouble twice when you can plan everything that needs to be done, including the recovery period, for the same session? Long story short, combining treatments can keep your entire face and neck area younger and refreshed and thus give you more holistic, natural and complete results.
