Facial Rejuvenation Surgery

A frequently-asked question:
What is the difference between facial rejuvenation surgery and a face lift?
The simplest answer:
Facial rejuvenation surgery is a comprehensive surgical strategy in which multiple operations/procedures are combined in the same anesthesia session.
Facial rejuvenation surgery often includes, but is not limited to, facelift surgery.
A facelift is a single operation.
It is a surgical procedure that is performed through an incision around the ear to remove excess skin and mainly covers the cheek area as well as the adjacent areas. Facelift alone does not affect the forehead, eyebrows, upper and lower eyelids, midface, lips, neck, ears, lack of facial volume, skin surface and skeletal structure of the face. However, the aging process covers all of the regions and layers I have mentioned above.
The term facial rejuvenation surgery refers to an individualized, holistic treatment that concerns multiple subunits and layers of the face.
Facial rejuvenation surgery does not necessarily have to be just a combination of surgical techniques. Surgical techniques may be combined with non-surgical procedures.
For instance,
- For Ms. Hamilton’s facial rejuvenation surgery, we can combine facelift, neck lift, upper eyelid and upper lip dermabrasion,
- For Ms. Watson’s surgery, we can combine midface lift, upper eyelid lift, forehead lift, peeling and lip augmentation,
- For Ms. Baker’s surgery, we can combine a mini facelift and whole face adipose tissue transfer,
- And for Mr. White’s surgery, we can combine neck lift, upper eyelid and chin implant.
All of these are facial rejuvenation surgeries.
Facial rejuvenation surgery is an individualized surgery.
The content of facial rejuvenation surgery varies according to the patient’s form of aging, facial structure and expectations.
It is not possible to talk about a standard facial rejuvenation surgery that can be applied to any patient.
As a basic principle, we prefer an individualized as well as holistic approach in facial rejuvenation surgery. This allows us to achieve both more effective and more natural results. When a single area is operated, the remaining areas may appear older than they are, and the operated area may appear more unnatural than it is. Therefore, it is important to “blend” the procedures in facial rejuvenation surgeries.
Facial rejuvenation surgery is actually a beautification surgery. It is not possible to rejuvenate the face biologically. Having the same looks as younger individuals is also an unrealistic expectation. The purpose of facial rejuvenation surgery is to make sure the person becomes “a beauty of their age”. I recommend you take a look at my blog post on that concept.
